Paul Hess, Principal Investigator
Associate Professor of Geography and Planning at the University of Toronto. His teaching and research focus on pedestrian environments and design, planning for activity transportation modes, and streets as public space. Current projects include a joint research project with Jane’s Walk exploring walkability in the inner suburbs and how residents without access to cars negotiate their neighbourhoods.

Jane Farrow, Community Engagement & Co-writer
Executive Director of Jane’s Walk. Jane has over 30 years experience working as a community organizer, spokesperson, writer and broadcaster. She is the former chair of the Active 18 Residents Association in Toronto that worked closely with developers, city stakeholders and business owners to devise a dense, livable and sustainable neighbourhood in the Queen West Triangle. As a CBC radio broadcaster, Jane Farrow hosted such programs as Workology, And Sometimes Y, Home and The Omnivore. She also created the popular ‘Wanted Words’ segment, which was the basis of two best-selling books. She co-wrote the Canadian Book of Lists, published by Knopf in 2005. In 2010 Jane was awarded a Vital People grant by the Toronto Community Foundation for her work as a valued community leader.
