Walkability Checklist

Where there’s a will, there’s a walk – fences make neighbourhoods less walkable by breaking up the natural ‘connections’ on direct walking routes.

The Walkability Checklist is a document that spells out what is meant by walkability, the extent to which a neighbourhood is friendly or un-friendly to walking. The Checklist is intended to used by residents who want to make a brief inventory of local assets and obstacles to walking. It can be used by individuals or small groups. Print off the list, grab a clipboard and go for a walk in your neighbourhood - get to know your walking environment.

This Checklist covers much of the same material that is featured on the Walkability Slide Show

The Group Discussion Topics are intended as a guideline for getting people to talk more about their walking environment. These sorts of conversations go a long way towards deepening people’s understanding of how the walking environment affects people’s daily behaviour and highlights the need for changes or modifications. For ideas about how to make changes visit our Making Improvements section.
