CCE sponsors and administers the Jane's Walk program nationally and internationally, fostering local partnerships to bring people together across geographic and social barriers for free neighbourhood walking tours.
We have recently partnered with the University of Toronto to conduct walkability studies in the inner suburbs which examine the walking environment of several densely populated high-rise neighbourhoods where thousands of people are adapting to a streetscape that can be hostile to pedestrians. The studies assess the ‘walkability’ of neighbourhoods and reflect the knowledge and experience of local residents. A Walkability Toolkit is being made available online for use by any community that wants to undertake their own walkability study which can then be used to advocate for local improvements.
